Winter 2024 Rehearsal Videos
Here you will find links to the Zoom recordings of our rehearsals - I'm very sorry for the sound quality of the videos so far, we are working on the issue.
Below, you will find the video links and the time stamps for the repertoire we worked on for each video. If you look in the description box, under the YouTube video, you will see the same time stamps. You should be able to click the time stamp and go directly to the piece you wish you review.

This was our first rehearsal this term. It was great to see so many new singers! The rehearsal began with some opening announcements followed by a brief warm up. Then, Ruth introduced The Road not Taken, and then we worked through the first movement of Songs of Nature. After the break, Ruth worked the opening section of Earth Song, and then I concluded the rehearsal with an introduction to An Anthem of Earth. It was a good first rehearsal!

Thank you everyone for a great rehearsal this week. This week's video begins with our regular announcements and then Ruth takes us through a warm up. Following the warm up, we began work on Dreamers of Dreams (we worked through the first half of the piece), and then began work on Phoebus (we worked through the end and then the beginning but didn't do much in the middle). After the break, we worked through the second half of the Road Not Taken and then finished the rehearsal with a little review on the first movement of Songs of Nature. It was a really good rehearsal!

This week's video begins with announcements and warm up followed by an introduction of two new pieces: Sure on This Shining Night and The Ballade of the Moon (both scores arrived this past week). We did not work through either piece fully, rather we introduced some of the main themes of music. We then moved into a review of The Road Not Taken and worked the middle section of Phoebus. Unfortunately, both the sound and video quality of this recording is not very good, my apologies about that. This is a work in progress as we figure out what we need both from a software/technology perspective along with what hardware we may need.

Thank you all for a good rehearsal this week. Following the announcements and warm up, we looked at two new movements of Nature Songs, Mvt. 3 and Mvt. 4. We worked through both of these movements completely. Before the break, we quickly sang through the first movement. Following the break, we again reviewed the middle section of Phoebus, followed by working on connecting all the parts. The sound quality of this rehearsal is much improved over the previous week, though there it is not perfect.

This week, we began as usual with announcements and a warm up. Then, Ruth worked us through The Road Not Taken and Phoebus. We took an early break and then resumed with Sure on This Shining Night, we concluded the rehearsal with a read through of the first movement of Songs of Nature. We had a good rehearsal, this material is beginning to settle - well done! For whatever reason, the audio quality of this recording is not great this week - my apologies for that.

This rehearsal was split into two sections. Following the group warm up we split into sectionals, TB and SA to work on the first three sections of An Anthem of Earth. Ruth led the SA sectional while Stuart worked with the TB. Unfortunately, the TB sectional was not recorded, while the SA sectional was. It has been pulled out of the full rehearsal video and is presented as its own video. Following the break, we worked through all of Sure on This Shining Night, before finishing the rehearsal we worked through the opening section of An Anthem of Earth. Thank you for all your hard work!

Thank you all for your patience with this week's rehearsal. There were a few abnormal things that came into play for this rehearsal, with my kids being around and Charmaine being sick, but you all managed very well and I thank Ruth for taking the lead on the rehearsal so that I could better function as the rehearsal accompanist for the morning. In spite of all the distractions, it was a good rehearsal and good work was done! Following the warm up, Ruth worked through the last verse and ending of The Road Not Taken, and then work through Phoebus, with attention on the transition points. After the break, she worked through all of Earth Song and you read the piece beautifully. At this point, we have covered most of the material for this concert and over the next few weeks we'll run material, but also focus on those things we still need to finish. Thank you for all your hard work!

Once again, thank you for a good rehearsal today. The video starts part way through the warm up, my apologies for that - I failed to hit the record button. After the warm up we worked on the end of The Dreamers of Dreams and then moved to the 'Brown' section of An Anthem of Earth. Following the break we read through Sure on This Shining Night and finished the rehearsal with the second half of Mvt. 5 from Nature Songs. We got a lot accomplished today, thank you.
Having said that, I'm getting the feeling that some are getting frustrated with the unfamiliar An Anthem of Earth. I get that, it can be very challenging to work on a piece with little to no reference material available. As I said during the rehearsal, be kind with yourself. The journey of choir is not about the destination (ie, the performance) rather it is about the work we do on a weekly basis and the friends and community we are building together. I am going to work on simplifying the piece a little for us, I think that will help!
