On December five and twenty, Fum, Fum, Fum!
On December five and twenty, Fum, Fum, Fum!
For the love of us is given the Holy Infant, son of Heaven.
Of the Virgin, Joseph's bride, to all the earth good will betiding, Fum, Fum, Fum!
Little birds from out the forest, Fum, Fum, Fum!
Little birds from out the forest, Fum, Fum, Fum!
All your fledgelings leave behind, go seek the Savior kind,
Come and build a lovely nest to warm the lovely Baby blessed. Fum, Fum, Fum!
Little stars up in the heavens, Fum, Fum, Fum!
Little stars up in the heavens, Fum, Fum, Fum!
If you see The Baby cry, O, do not answer with a sigh!
Rather, lighten up the sky with heaven's beams of radiant brightness. Fum, Fum, Fum!

Angel's Carol
John Rutter (b. 1945)
Have you hear the sound of the angel voices
Ringing our so sweetly, ringing out so clear?
Have you seen the star shining out so brightly
As a sign from God that Christ the Lord is here?
Have you heard the news that they bring from heaven
To the humble shepherds what have waited long?
Gloria in excelsis Deo,
Gloria in excelsis Deo!
Hear the angels sing their joyful song.
He is come in peace in the winter's stillness,
Like a gentle snowfall in the gentle night;
He is come in joy like the sun at morning
Filling all the world with radiance and with light.
He is come in love as the child of Mary;
IN a simple stable we have seen his birth:
Gloria in excelsis Deo,
Gloria in excelsis Deo!
Hear the angels singing "Peace on earth".
He will bring new light to a world in darkness,
Like a bright star shining in the skies above;
He will bring new hope to the waiting nations
When he comes to reign in purity and love.
Let the earth rejoice at the Saviour's coming;
Let the heavens answer with the joyful morn:
Gloria in excelsis Deo,
Gloria in excelsis Deo!
Hear the angels singing "Christ is born."

Away in a Manger
Bob Chilcott (b. 1955)
Rebecca McIntosh - Soprano
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head;
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus a sleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
And fit us for heaven, to live with thee there.

With sweet rejoicing
now sing and be glad!
Our hearts' delight
is lying in a manger
and shines like the sun
on his mother's lap.
you are the Alpha and Omega.
O tiny baby Jesus
I so long for you!
comfort my soul,
O peerless boy;
by all your goodness,
O prince of glory,
draw me to you.
O love of the father,
O leniency of the son!
We were all lost
through our sins
until you gained for us
the joys of heaven:
O that we were there!
Joys are there
as in no other place!
There the angels sing
a new song
and the bells ring out
in the court of the king:
O that we were there!

This is the Record of John
Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625)
Sonia Campbell - Mezzo-Soprano
This is the record of John,
when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him,
Who are thou?
And he confessed and denied not, and said plainly,
I am not the Christ.
And they asked hum, What are thou then? Art thou Elias?
And he said, I am not.
Art thou the prophet?
And he answered, No.
Then said they unto him,
Who art thou? that we may give an answer unto them that sent us.
What sayest thou of thyself?
And he said, I am the voice of him that crieth in the wilderness,
Make straight the way of the Lord.

1. Gloria in excelsis Deo
With changing notes,
yet with a single voice,
we now offer up our joy.
Glory to God in the highest.

the lutes now strike up again,
the pipes, the lyres and the organs.
Glory to God in the highest.
2. Et in terra pax
And on earth peace, goodwill towards all.
3. Laudamus te
We praise Thee, we bless Thee,
we worship Thee, we glorify Thee.

Joie de Vivre Community Choir (JDV) was founded in 2002 by Helga Anderson and Ann Lugsden as a program within the Division of Preparatory Studies at the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music, University of Manitoba. In 2014 JDV established itself as a mainstay in the Winnipeg community choral landscape under the direction of John Tanner and since then the choir has been fortunate to call the Parish of St. John Brebeuf home. In 2018 Dr. Stuart Sladden began his tenure as the choir’s Music Director and in 2019 our apprentice conductor program was established. Ruth Denton, now the Assistant Conductor, joined the artistic team through that program in the fall of 2022.
JDV is a non-auditioned community choir that welcomes singers of all experience levels, so if you are interested in joining the choir please do not hesitate to be in touch with us, by speaking with Dr. Sladden or by sending us an email at [email protected]. Thank you so much for joining us today and we wish you all a safe and happy holiday season!
