I Love You / What a Wonderful World
Arr. Craig Hella Johnson
I Love You

We can be together now and forever;
I love you;
I love you.
And when I’m prayin’, I hear him saying’ “I love you.”
People all over the world, they’re opening up,
they’re comin’ around and they’re saying’
I love, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you,
I love, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you.

What a Wonderful World
I see trees of green, red roses too,
I see them bloom for me and you.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white,
bright blessed day, and dark sacred night;
And I think to myself
“What a wonderful world.”

Colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky,
Are also on the faces of the people going by.
I see friends shaking hands, saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, "I love you, I love you.”

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow;
They'll learn much more
Than I'll ever know,
And I think to myself,
“What a wonderful world, wonderful world,
What a wonderful world.”

With a Little Help from My Friends
John Lennon and Paul McCartney
Arr. Kate Crellin

What would you so if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
And I'll try not to sing out of key.

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends.
Mmm, I get by with a little help from my friends.
Mmm, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends.

What do I do when my love is away?
Does it worry you to be alone?
How does it feel by the end of the day?
Are you sad because you're on your own?

No, I get by with a little help from my friends.
Mmm, I get by with a little help from my friends.
Mmm, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends.
Mmm, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends.

Do you need anybody?
Oh I need somebody to love.
Could it be anybody?
Oh, I want somebody to love.

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends.
Mmm, I get by with a little help from my friends.
Mmm, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends.
I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends, my friends!

La vie en rose
(Take Me to Your Heart Again)

Edith Piaf. Louiguy (music)
trans. Mack David
arr. Paris Rutherford

Hold me close and hold me fast,
The magic spell you cast,
This is la vie en rose.
When you kiss me, heaven sighs,
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose.

When you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart,
A world where roses bloom.

And when you speak
Angels sing from above;
Everyday words
Seem to turn into love songs.

Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be
La vie en rose.

So when you hold me,
Hold me close and hold me fast,
the magic spell you cast is la vie en rose.
So when you hold and kiss me the heavens above
Sing with a passion that runs into love songs.

Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be
La vie en rose.
Hold me close and hold me fast.

Homeward Bound
Marta Keen
arr. Jay Althouse

In the quiet misty morning when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing and the sky is clear and red,
When the summer’s ceased its gleaming, when the corn is past its prime,
When adventure’s lost its meaning, I’ll be homeward bound in time.

Bind me not to the pasture; chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and I’ll return to you somehow.

If you find it’s me you’re missing, if you’re hoping I’ll return,
To your thoughts I’ll soon be list’ning, in the road I’ll stop and turn.
Then the wind will set me racing as my journey nears its end,
And the path I’ll be retracing when I’m homeward bound again.

Bind me not to the pasture; chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and I’ll return to you somehow.

In the quiet misty morning when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing,
I’ll be homeward bound again.

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother
Bob Russell and Bobby Scott
arr. Jay Althouse

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where,
who knows where
But I'm strong,
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

So on we go
His welfare is of my concern.
No burden is he to bear;
We'll get there.

For I know
He would not encumber me.
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

If I'm laden at all,
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another.

It's a long, long road
From which there is no return.
While we're on the way to there,
Why not share?

And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy at all.
He ain't heavy at all.
He's my brother.
He's my brother.
He's my brother.

Crowded Table
Natalie Hemby, Lori Mckenna and Brandi Carlile
arr. Andrea Ramsey

 Kathleen Hornshaw, flute; Cullen Yeates, cajon

You can hold my hand
When you need to let go.
I can be a mountain
When you're feeling valley-low.
I can be a streetlight
Showing you the way home.
If you can hold my hand
When you need to let go

I want a house with a crowded table,
And a place by the fire for everyone.
Let us take on the world while we're young and able,
And bring us back together when the day is done.

If we want a garden,
We're gonna have to sow the seed,
Plant a little happiness,
Let the roots run deep.
If it's love that we give,
Then it's love that we reap.
If we want a garden,
We're gonna have to sow the seed.

Yeah I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone.
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done.

The door is always open,
Your picture's on my wall,
Everyone's a little broken
And everyone belongs,
Yeah, everyone belongs

I want a house with a crowded table,
And a place by the fire for everyone.
Let us take on the world while we're young and able,
And bring us back together when the day is done.
And bring us back together when the day, when the day is done.

Moments Like This
Craig Cassils, Clark Saunders
Ruth Denton, Conductor
Moments like this will stay long in the heart and mind;
When we have gone our way, something is left behind,
all of our sharing here will never be past and gone
When we are no longer near, an afterglow lingers on.

If every day seems long when we are on our own,
Still we can sing our song into the days unknown, into the days unknown.

Moments like this will stay long in the heart and mind;
When we have gone our way, something is left behind.

We may try to hold them, hang on tight
Savour, enfold them,
But we know that moments fly on fleeting wings
And leave us feeling lost and lone
as we learn we never controlled them.

If every day seems long when we are on our own,
Still we can sing our song into the days unknown, into the days unknown.

Moments like this will stay long in the heart and mind;
When we have gone our way, something is left behind.
Moments like this will stay long in the heart and mind;
When we have gone our way, something is left behind.

I am, you are me.
That’s what I said, I am, you are me.
Don’t you see?

It seems like I’m over here,
And you’re over there,
but there is something between us
that’s greater than air.
See through the confusion,
It’s not hard to do,
It’s just an illusion this me and you.

I am a part of you, you are a part of me,
and so together we are one body.
I am inside your head,
you are inside my heart.
We fit together perfect from the start!

For Good
Stephen Schwartz
arr. Mac Huff

Kelsey McLennan, Alto Soloist
I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason,
bringing something we must learn;
And we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them,
and we help them in return.
Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true;
But I know I’m who I am today because I knew you.
Like a comet pulled from orbit,
As it passes the sun.
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood.

Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better but,
Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.
It will may be that we will never meet again
In this lifetime,
So let me say before we part
So much of me is made of what I learned from you.

You’ll be with me like a handprint on my heart.
And now whatever way, our stories end,
I know you have rewritten mind by being my friend.
Like a ship blown from its mooring by the wind off the sea.
Like a seed dropped by a sky bird in a distant wood.

Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better but,
because I knew you I have been changed for good.
And just to clear the air, I ask forgiveness
for the things I’ve done you blamed me for.
But then I guess we know there’s blamed to share
and none of it seems to matter anymore.

You’re My Best Friend
John Deacon
arr. Paul Langford

You make me live,
Whatever this world can give to me.
It’s you, you’re all I see.
You make me live now, honey.
You make me live.

Oh, you’re the best friend that I ever had
I’ve been with you such a long time,
You’re my sunshine, and I want you to know
That my feelings are true.
I really love you.

You make me live.
I’ve been wandering ‘round
It still comes back to you
In rain or shine you stood by me, boy.
I’m happy at home.
You’re my best friend.

You make me live
Whenever this world is cruel to me.
I got you to help me forgive.
You’re the first one
When things turn out bad. You know, I’ll never be lonely,
You’re my only one,
And I love the things that you do.

Run to You
Pentatonix
arr. Kirby Shaw

A light in the room;
It was you who was standing there.
Tried it was, true,
As your glance met my stare.
But your heart drifted off
Like the land, split by sea.
I tried to go, to follow,
To kneel down at your feet.

I’ll run, I’ll run,
I’ll run, run to you.

I’ve been settling scores;
I’ve been fighting so long,
But I’ve lost your war,
And our kingdom is gone.
How shall I win back
Your heart, which was mine?
I have broken bones and tattered clothes;
I have run out of time.

I’ll run, I’ll run,
I’ll run, run to you.

I will break down the gates of heaven.
1000 angels stand waiting for me.
Oh, take my heart
And I’ll lay down my weapons.
Break my shackles to set me free.

I’ll run, I’ll run,
I’ll run, run to you.

You’ve Got A Friend
Carole King
arr. Mac Huff

When you’re down in troubled,
And you need a helping hand;
And nothing, nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me,
And soon I will be there;
To brighten up even your darkest night.

You just call out my name,
And you know wherever I am,
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall,
All you have to do is call,
And I’ll be there, yes, I will.
You’ve got a friend.

If the sky above you
Should turn dark and full of clouds;
And that ol’ north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together,
And call my name out loud;
Soon, I’ll be knocking upon your door.

You just call out my name,
And you know wherever I am,
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall,
All you have to do is call,
And I’ll be there, yes, I will.

Ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend,
When people can be so cold.
They’ll hurt you, they’ll desert you,
They’ll take your soul if you let them.
But don’t you let them.

You just call out my name,
And you know wherever I am,
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall,
All you have to do is call,
And I’ll be there, yes, I will.
You’ve got a friend.

You Raise Me Up
Brendan Graham and Rolf U. Lovland
arr. Roger Emerson

When I am down and, oh, my soul's so weary,
When troubles come and my heart burdened be.
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains.
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders.
You raise me up to more than I can be.

There is no life, no life without its hunger.
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly.
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.
I am strong when I am on Your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.

Joie de Vivre Community Choir (JDV) was founded in 2002 by Helga Anderson and Ann Lugsden as a program within the Division of Preparatory Studies at the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music, University of Manitoba. In 2014 JDV established itself as a mainstay in the Winnipeg community choral landscape under the direction of John Tanner and since then the choir has been fortunate to call the Parish of St. John Brebeuf home. In 2018 Dr. Stuart Sladden began his tenure as the choir’s music director and in 2019 our apprentice conductor program was established. Ruth Denton, our Assistant Conductor, joined the artistic team through that program in the fall of 2022.

JDV is a non-auditioned community choir that welcomes singers of all experience levels, so if you are interested in joining the choir please do not hesitate to be in touch with us, by speaking with Dr. Sladden or by sending us an email at [email protected].
Prairie Vox Community Choir is a non-auditioned, inclusive adult community choir in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The choir was founded by Lori Mackedenski in January 2023.  What initially began as a small group of singers, has become an artistic touchstone for the community with the addition of Artistic Director, Janine Waines, who assumed her position in June 2024. Under her skillful direction, the choir has grown in size and scope. Prairie Vox draws singers from Portage la Prairie and the surrounding communities of McGregor, Oakville, St. Claude, and Winnipeg.

Prairie Vox has participated in Prairie Sounds Festival of the Arts.  In December 2024, the choir had the opportunity to sing with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra during its performance at the William Glesby Center in Portage la Prairie.  Prairie Vox is excited to be sharing two concert performances with Joie de Vivre.  In January 2026, members of Prairie Vox will have the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Prairie Vox rehearses Tuesday nights at Prairie Vineyard Church in Portage la Prairie. New members are always welcome. For more information, please email:
