JDV Coming Up!
March 6 - Sectionals
We will be continuing with our sectional rehearsals this week. As a reminder, here are the times for each sectional:
Alto Sectional: 10:00-10:35
Tenor/Bass Sectional: 10:40-11:25
Soprano Sectional: 11:30-12:05
This week will be our last session on Hope Springs before moving into the recording phase. Many thanks to Elizabeth for working with you over the last 2 sessions!
We will be focusing this week on singing with the reference tracks so that you are really comfortable with the material for recording. As usually, we will also review any challenging spots you may still be having and discuss any questions you may have.
For the recording of this piece, we are asking everyone to wear either a black or white (or black and white) shirt with a blue or green accent colour. We are also asking for your creative input for the video. The themes in this piece are hope and nature and we are asking you to provide either words or small phrases of what hope or nature mean to you, and/or art work (pictures/paintings/drawings) that represent these themes. Note: We may not use all submissions but what we don't end up being able to use, we will post to the website gallery. Thank you for your help with this!
Music Education Series
We will be hosting a few session through March, so mark your calendars! All Education sessions will use our normal Zoom link found in the Choir Loft.
March 9, 7:30 PM: The focus of this session will be the International Phonetic Alphabet - or the great vowel equalizer for choirs. We have discussed this system in passing during our rehearsals, but this session is designed to give you the nuts and bolts of this system and how to use it to improve your diction.
March 23 and 30, 7:30 PM: We are co-hosting these sessions with MCA, made possible by a Laura Hawley micro grant we received in the fall. These sessions, facilitated by Dr. Matthew Pauls from CMU, will be focusing on the voice. The first session will be a discussion of vocal pedagogy, vocal health, and continuing to sing in a healthy way as our voices mature, while the second session will focus on putting into practice those things discussed during the first session. In partnership with MCA we are inviting older adult singers from across the province to join us, which means that space will be limited. We will be asking people to register to attend these sessions, and that form will be posted soon.
